HOW TO IMPROVE YAHOO ANSWER’S EFFICIENCY

Posted by fijrinroysh on August 7, 2009

I Love YAHOO SERVICES very much .Especially YAHOO MESSENGER .I came across the yahoo answers services .I found a major defect in it .

Usually Answers are written by people who are looking for the solution to the same problem .They must also be searching for the same solution .

The general idea on the majority of people who reply to questions on yahoo answers

1. People who are searching for the solution or answer to same question.

2. people who know some partial answers and are not sure about it and they give what they know as answers just to get comfirmation from others or to get a test dummy for their doubts.

3. People who know the perfect solution from their own personal experience(They find the questions accidentally (for eg)finding a question about “hair loss due to die chemicals” while searching for details about “hair colouring”)

So when a person searches for the answer -He finds the question -perfect match to his query ….But……

Inside he finds bunch of people with similar query or with partial solution to the query .

WHY THIS HAPPENS ?

This happens because people who are searching for an answer (for eg )-say a medicine for a disease and let us consider he/she does not get the answer.

He/She will definitely find a solution one way or the other but he/she wont be considering seriously sharing it with those who were suffering with her. Mainly because she would have gone through several web pages or questions through internet and she cant decide where to answer and where to find the questions that she went through. In brief people dont volunteer in helping others unless they get the opportunity right in their doorstep.

MY RECOMMENDATION

I like the design of the Yahoo answers .It is very userfriendly .The option for providing vote for the best answer is a note worty feature. But still there are a few features that needs to be updated so that Yahoo answers can emerge as the best knowledge source on INTERNET. Lets get to the point .

YAHOO ANSWERS works mainly on user knowledge and hence a very very user friendly feature has to be provided for individual users. I’ll explain in Detail.

Every user should be recognized [say by logging in ]. The users must  sign in so that, he can be tracked .

1.Their interests

2.questions where they answered

3.questions where they voted

4.questions where they just visited

should be tracked. These details should be brought to their notice when they stay at YAHOO ANSWERS [Say on one side of the page].

The home page for the user should have a wide range of details like…..

Consider classifying into three categories

1. Answered questions

2. Voted questions

3. Visited questions

In each category, the list of questions should be listed, with an option to answer (button) next to each question ,and should be marked with increase in success rate with a green upward arrow and decrease in success rate with a downward red arrow.

Further the three categories can also be further listed into two

1. Questions with most improved success rate since last visit

2. Recently updated questions since last visit

An interface should be provided for the users so that they can keep in touch with the questions they were searching for an answer. This will motivate them to consider answering the questions for which they have found the answer and also will help them to track the questions that they were interested in .

Finally ,the quality of the  user’s answers should be tracked and the  individual user should be rated(from the votes they get) .

The answer from the top rated users  should  by default appear on top of the answers until votes for that particular question begins to appear.

I still think there is lot more to be improved……….Kindly  share your suggestions………

Difference between a Piano and a Keyboard

Posted by fijrinroysh on August 2, 2009

Well, piano’s have more keys for starters….it is something like 17 more keys or something…..

Piano’s have more pedals which are more efficient (if you buy sustain jacks for keyboards, when you release the pedal it stops abruptly, whereas on a piano it stops gentally….)

Piano’s sound and feel soooo much nicer to play – the sounds is so much more amazing and even with the digital sampling technolgy on keyboards these days which is great, but nothing beats the real thing.

usually a keyboard is a synthesizer (meaning it comes with a few instrument sounds prerecorded) and a piano will be the instrument with 88 keys and uses levers and hammers to strike a string that then vibrates back and forth to create the sound and pitch Keyboard’s are electric, pianos aren’t

keyboard’s will do for beginners, as you don’t need as many keys and don’t use the pedal yet and stuff, but piano’s are definately a whole world better!!!!

Good luck with learning the piano/keyboard, hope I was of any help!!!

Meeting between Neil Armstrong and Indira Gandhi

Posted by fijrinroysh on July 21, 2009

Extraordianry men are always extraordinary in their thinking not just by coincidence. Their extraordinary acheivements are derivation of their extra ordinary thoughts .I read the letters to the editor on THE HINDU newspaper today and found  the following .The information was provided by Mr.Natwar Singh.

“To mark the first anniversary of their landing on the moon on 20.7.1969, Armstrong and Aldrin undertook a world tour. One of their important stops was New Delhi, to meet Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and to present her a fragment of the moon rock. The meeting took place in the Prime Minister’s office in Parliament House. I conducted the two lunar heroes to her room. The U.S. Ambassador was also present.

The Prime Minister, if she was meeting someone she did not personally know, was always amiable but distant. After the photographers had departed, there was an awkward silence. She looked at me. Signal enough for me to speak up. “Mr. Armstrong, you will be interested to know that the Prime Minister kept awake till 4 a.m., so as not to miss the exact time of your lunar landing.”

Neil Armstrong rose to the occasion. “I apologise for the inconvenience we caused you, Madam Prime Minister. Next time, I shall make sure that we land on the moon at a less unearthly hour.” Touche.

People always remember and celebrate the acheivements of people and often forget the force that had driven them. The statement made by Neil Armstrong shows his love and respect  towards mankind and his sincerity in serving it.

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERNCE – YOU NEED TO BE DIFFERENT

Sueing in INDIA

Posted by fijrinroysh on July 16, 2009

Have you heard of the word SUE . It means -to institute a process in law against; bring a civil action against: to sue someone for damages.

Sueing a person or a company in court of law is – filing a complaint about the damage or loss they have caused. But this does not often happen in INDIA. Even though some people try , they usually fail .

My Brother’s family  in America  say that ,Sueing is considered  as the right of an individual in America. People in America sue for everything ,sometimes for silly reasons .This is one of the major reasons for the well organized working of the Government offices, Mirror  like roads etc ….etc…..in America.

If we compare between INDIA and AMERICA. They are at the north and south pole in the art of sueing. hee…..hee…heee……… I came across some funny incidents and  i thought I should share it with You .

In INDIA

1. Petition against tax exemption to films with Tamil names dismissed

Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking to quash a Tamil Nadu government order exempting Tamil films with names in Tamil from entertainment tax.

In their order, a Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice H L Gokhale and Justice K Venkataraman, cited the Supreme Court which time and again had held that it was for a state to pick and choose the area of taxation.

‘Hence it is not possible for this court to grant any relief’, the Judges said and dismissed the petition.

2 .Delhi court ordered a restaurant to pay one rupee as compensation.

A guy went to a restaurant in delhi with his family and ordered food . He found the food contaminated and filed a

case in court . The restaurant offered his family a free meal but he rejected their offer . Finally the court found that the restaurant is

guilty and ordered the restaurant to pay 1 rupee as compensation .

In US

1. Women sued the water suppliers for distributing water very hot

A women in America sued a water supplier company to the house  for a large sum of money stating that ,”the water was too hot and it

caused my hand to burn” .The court ordered the company to pay a large sum of money to the women as a compensation for its

carelessness.

2. A guy sued Coke company stating that he found an insect in the bottle he purchased.

The court ordered Coke company to give a large sum of money as compensation to the guy and also a new bottle of Coke.

Sounds cool……. isn’t it………?

College Dropouts

Posted by fijrinroysh on July 12, 2009

Are college dropouts more successful than people with good education? It would seem so if you consider that many billionaires are people who dumped college. However, what this hides is the fact that although millions quit studies before completing them, very few of them go on to become rich.
What the list of the super-rich dropouts signifies is that in business, a top degree is not as important as having the right aptitude, attitude, determination and vision.

Here are some dropouts who went on to become billionaires:

Bill Gates

William Henry Gates III (1955-), along with Paul Allen, co-founded Microsoft Corporation, the world’s largest software maker. Bill Gates, the wealthiest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $480 crores (Rs 211,200 crore!), is probably the best-known college dropout.
Gates attended an exclusive prep school in Seattle, went on to study at Harvard University, then dropped out to pursue software development. As students in the mid-70s, he and Paul Allen wrote the original Altair BASIC interpreter for the Altair 8800, the first commercially successful PC.
In 1975, Micro-Soft – later Microsoft Corporation – was born. Three decades on, Gates has been Number One on the Forbes 400 for over a dozen years. And here’s something you probably didn’t know: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation currently provides 90 per cent of the world budget for the attempted eradication of polio.

Larry Ellison

Lawrence Joseph Ellison (1944-), co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, founded his company in 1977 with a sum of $2,000. Once a school dropout, he is now, according to Forbes, one of the richest people in America with a net worth of around $184 crores. The figure also makes him the ninth richest in the world.
As a young man, Ellison worked for the Ampex Corporation, where one of his projects was a database for the CIA. He called it Oracle, a name he was to reuse years later for the company that made him famous.
Interestingly, the organisation’ s initial release was Oracle 2. The number supposedly implied that all bugs had been eliminated from an earlier version.
Ellison is quite a colourful man, and has long dabbled in all kinds of things. Want to learn more? Try his biography, The Difference Between God and Larry Ellison.

Dhirubhai Ambani

Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani (1932-2002) was born into the family of a schoolteacher. It was a family of modest means. When he turned 16, Dhirubhai moved to Aden, working first as a gas-station attendant, then as a clerk in an oil company.
He returned to India at 26, starting a business with a meagre capital of $375. By the time of his demise, his company – Reliance Industries Ltd – had grown to become an empire, with an estimated annual turnover of $120 crores!
Dhirubhai was, in his lifetime, conferred the Indian Entrepreneur of the 20th Century Award by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. A Times of India poll in the year 2000 also voted him one of the biggest creators of wealth in this century.
Dhirubhai’s is not just the usual
rags-to-riches story. He will be remembered as the one who rewrote Indian corporate history and built a truly global corporate group.. He is also credited with having single-handedly breathed life into the Indian stock markets and bringing in thousands of investors to the bourses.

Steve Jobs

Steven Paul Jobs (1955-) and Apple Computer are names that have long gone together.
Born in the United States to an unknown Egyptian-Arab father, Jobs was adopted soon after birth. After graduating high school, he enrolled in Reed College, dropping out after one semester.
In 1976, 21-year-old Jobs and 26-year old Steve Wozniak founded Apple Computer Co. in the family garage. Jobs revolutionised the industry by popularising the concept of home computers.
By 1984, the Macintosh was introduced. He had an influential role in the building of the World-Wide Web, and also happens to be Chairman and CEO of Pixar Animation Studios.
Today, with the iPod, Apple is bigger than ever. Incidentally, Jobs worked for several years at an annual salary of $1. It got him a listing in the Guinness Book as `Lowest Paid Chief Executive Officer.’ He was once gifted a $9 crores jet by the company though. And his net worth? Moer than $3 billion.

Michael Dell

Michael Saul Dell (1965- ) joined the University of Texas at Austin with the intention of becoming a physician. While studying there, he started a computer company in his dormitory, calling it PC’s Limited. By the time he turned 19, it had notched up enough success to prompt Dell to dropout.
In 1987, PC’s Limited changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation. By 2003, Dell, Inc. was the world’s most profitable PC manufacturer.
Dell has won more than his fair share of accolades, including Man of the Year from PC Magazine and EM>CEO of the Year from Financial World . Forbes, in 2005, lists him as the 18th richest in the world with a net worth of around $1600 Crores. Not bad for just another dropout.

Subhash Chandra Goel

Here’s something not many people know about Subhash Chandra Goel : The Zee chairman dropped out after standard 12.
Subhash Chandra started his own vegetable oils unit at 19. It was, in a manner of speaking, his first job. Years later, a casual visit to a friend at Doordarshan gave him the idea of starting his own broadcasting company. We all know how that story ran.
Chandra knew nothing about programming, distribution or film rights. What he did understand quite well was the Indian sensibility though. Funded by UK businessmen, Zee came into being as India’s first satellite TV network.
Today, it reaches 320 lakhs homes, connecting with 20 crores people in South Asia alone.

Did Armstrong really walk on MOON ?

Posted by fijrinroysh on July 3, 2009

There are always lot of questions and doubts regarding the  NASA’s journey to the MOON .The frequently asked questions are answered here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The fluttering flag

Claim: The planted U.S. flag waves in the wind, which is impossible without an atmosphere.

Why it’s nonsense: The flag doesn’t move in any of the videos except when touched by Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin. But then the lack of atmosphere and friction stops it settling quickly, as it would on Earth. “If it moved it would have kept moving. No wind is needed,” says Doug Millard at the Science Museum in London.

The shifty shadows

Claim: Pictures show shadows cast by objects on the surface at different angles. There must have been multiple light sources, such as in a TV studio.

Why it’s nonsense: A low sun and uneven surface can distort the angles of shadows in images. But if there were multiple light sources, why does each object cast only one shadow? “The moon is an alien place and people who raise these questions simply aren’t in a position to comment about what we should expect there,” Millard says. “Only 12 guys have been there and know this stuff for real.”

The phantom photographers

Claim: Images taken of astronauts arriving on the moon and blasting off again would need someone else there with a camera.

Why it’s nonsense: Armstrong’s small step was shot by a camera mounted on the outside of the Eagle lander. Still photos of his arrival taken from further away are actually of Aldrin, snapped by Armstrong. Remote cameras left on the moon could easily track departures.

The killer radiation

Claim: Apollo astronauts could not have travelled to the moon as a giant belt of lethal space radiation would have frazzled them.

Why it’s nonsense: These so called Van Allen belts, where the Earth’s magnetic field collects solar radiation, would be dangerous only if people were to hang out there for several days. The astronauts whizzed through in a matter of hours, and received a radiation dose similar to an X-ray. “You can pass through quite safely as long as you don’t linger too long,” Millard says.

The missing flame

Claim: There was no exhaust flame from the lunar module when it blasted back off the moon. Therefore, it was a model pulled up on a wire.

Why it’s nonsense: The Saturn V rocket burnt liquid oxygen and kerosene on blast-off, which provides a fiery plume. The lunar lander ran on nitrogen tetroxide and Aerozine 50, which doesn’t. Its exhaust gases were transparent.

The absent stars

Claim: Space is full of stars, so why do they not appear in photographs taken on the moon?

Why it’s nonsense: The astronauts took pictures of brightly lit, shiny white objects. In these conditions, cameras need a fast exposure time and small aperture, making it impossible to capture faint background objects. Guardian photographer Graeme Robertson says: “They would have used a really fast shutter speed so everything in the background would just be black.”

The faked footprint

Claim: The famous footprints on the lunar surface needed water to form. Otherwise they would settle out, as they do in dry sand.

Why it’s nonsense: Moon dust is a different size and shape from sand and doesn’t need moisture to hold a compressed shape. Many powders on Earth can behave in the same way. Walk in spilt talcum powder and see.

The coke bottle

Claim: An Australian lady, known as Una Ronald, claimed to have seen a Coke bottle kicked across the moon during the Apollo 11 landing. It must have been filmed in a studio.

Why it’s nonsense: Where to start? Una, if she exists, saw something that the rest of the watching world missed, and of which zero evidence survives. Hardly likely to be the real thing.

The rock prop

Claim: A moon rock photographed on the later Apollo 16’s mission is marked with a “C”. It’s a prop and shows the whole thing was staged.

Why it’s nonsense: The C doesn’t appear in the original NASA negatives or prints. Under close magnification, it looks like a hair or fibre that has contaminated a later reproduction.

The Hubble cover-up

Claim: NASA could end all the moon conspiracy claims by using the Hubble space telescope to take pictures of the equipment left behind.

Why it’s nonsense: While Hubble has sent back astonishing images — galaxies, supernovae and nebulae — they are all very, very big. The largest piece of man-made rubbish on the moon is the descent stage of the Eagle lander, about 10 m across. That’s just too small for Hubble to see.

Swine flu symptoms

Posted by fijrinroysh on June 30, 2009

Although the name ’swine flu’ brings up a lot of extra fear and worry, it is important to note that swine flu is just an influenza A H1N1 virus.

That means that it is just another type of flu virus, just like that causes our typical seasonal flu symptoms. The big difference is that the current swine influenza A (H1N1) virus has components of pig and bird influenza viruses in it, so that humans don’t have any immunity to it. That makes it more likely to become a pandemic virus (have the ability to cause a global outbreak) if it can easily spread from person-to-person.

So far, even as you see swine flu cases increase on this swine flu map, experts don’t know if this swine influenza A (H1N1) virus will become a pandemic strain of flu. It could or we just continue to see sporadic cases for a few weeks or months until it stops.

We do know that swine flu symptoms are just like seasonal flu symptoms.

Swine Flu Symptoms

According to the CDC, like seasonal flu, symptoms of swine flu infections can include:

  • fever, which is usually high, but unlike seasonal flu, is sometimes absent
  • cough
  • runny nose or stuffy nose
  • sore throat
  • body aches
  • headache
  • chills
  • fatigue or tiredness, which can be extreme
  • diarrhea and vomiting, sometimes, but more commonly seen than with seasonal flu

Signs of a more serious swine flu infection might include pneumonia and respiratory failure.

If your child has symptoms of swine flu, you should avoid other people and call your pediatrician who might do a rapid flu test to see if he has an influenza A infection. Further testing can then be done to see if it is a swine flu infection. (Samples are being sent to local and state health departments and the CDC for confirmation of swine flu.)

Serious Swine Flu Symptoms

More serious symptoms that would indicate that a child with swine flu would need urgent medical attention include:

  • Fast breathing or trouble breathing
  • Bluish or gray skin color
  • Not drinking enough fluids
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Not waking up or not interacting
  • Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
  • Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

Swine Flu Symptoms vs. a Cold or Sinus Infection

It is important to keep in mind most children with a runny nose or cough will not have swine flu and will not have to see their pediatrician for swine flu testing.

This time of year, many other childhood conditions are common, including:

  • spring allergies – runny nose, congestion, and cough
  • common cold – runny nose, cough, and low grade fever
  • sinus infections – lingering runny nose, cough, and fever
  • strep throat – sore throat, fever, and a positive strep test

What You Need To Know

  • Swine flu likely spreads by direct contact with respiratory secretions of someone that is sick with swine flu, like if they were coughing and sneezing close to you.
  • People with swine flu are likely contagious for one day before and up to seven days after they began to get sick with swine flu symptoms.
  • Droplets from a cough or sneeze can also contaminate surfaces, such as a doorknob, drinking glass, or kitchen counter, although these germs likely don’t survive for more than a few hours.
  • Anti-flu medications, including Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir), are available to prevent and treat swine flu.
  • The latest swine flu news from the CDC includes advice that students should stay home if they have swine flu symptoms, but schools do not need to close unless they have large clusters of cases that are affecting school functioning. Schools that closed based on previous recommendations, such as if they had a single confirmed case or probable case, can now likely reopen.
